We are excited to announce the opening of the Osteoporosis Center at Columbia Orthopaedic Group. This clinic is the first in Mid-Missouri to focus solely on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and low bone density.

The healthcare team is comprised of Dr. Jennifer Clark, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, and Andrew James, APRN-BC, an advanced practice nurse specializing in adult health. Clark has been providing care for osteoporosis patients since joining COG in 1993. James has been in healthcare since 1994 and orthopaedics since 2000.

We are happy to see any patients about whom you have concerns regarding osteoporosis or low bone density. All women age 65 or older and all men age 70 are candidates for screening and bone density testing. Patients 50 or older are candidates for screening with testing if indicated. Individuals in this age range of special consideration include low trauma fractures, smoking history, and family history of osteoporosis or taking medications which cause bone loss. Many diseases can cause secondary osteoporosis, so these patients need to be screened as well.

Our primary goal is to decrease the incidence of fragility fractures to stop the cascade of chronic pain, decreased function, impaired quality of life and more fractures. Our model includes long term care of these patients. We will send follow-up letters to you describing our findings and plan of care. As their primary physician, the care of these patients ultimately lies with you. Please let us know if you would prefer a different care continuum. We are willing to take over care of your currently treated osteoporosis patients if you would find that of value.
