Peter K. Buchert, MD

Dr. Buchert was born in Tennessee and moved to Columbia, Missouri where he graduated from Hickman High School.

He earned his bachelors degree from Amherst College in Massachusetts and returned to Columbia, Missouri to attend the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Upon finishing medical school, Dr. Buchert completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopaedic surgery, both at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. He then moved to Columbus, Ohio where he completed a total joint fellowship at Ohio State University.

Dr. Buchert joined Columbia Orthopaedic Group in 1985 and practices orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in hip and knee arthritis including total joint replacement. He has treated thousands of patients from across the Midwest and believes that arthritis treatment always begins conservatively, stating that medications, physical therapy, injections, and lifestyle changes can help dramatically.

Once conservative measures fail, operative intervention can be considered. Dr. Buchert has performed over 6,000 hip and knee replacements over the past 20 years. Smaller incisions, decreased hospital stays, and quicker recovery have all become the norm.

Dr. Buchert is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of a number of medical societies including the Missouri State Medical Society, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Other individuals working directly on Dr. Buchert’s team are Greg, P.A. and administrative assistant, Mary Lou.
