Pain Management
Request an AppointmentDr. Newton is a native Arkansan who attended Hendrix College for undergraduate education graduating with a degree in biology. From there he entered the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences earning a Masters Degree in Physiology. He stayed at UAMS earning a medical degree and completing a residency in Anesthesiology in 1997. As a board certified Anesthesiologist he practiced anesthesia in rural northern Arkansas where he provided both anesthesia and spinal injections for the next 14 years. During this time he developed an interest in interventional pain medicine. This led him to enter a pain fellowship at the University of Kentucky at Lexington after which he moved his family to Columbia, Missouri to join the Columbia Orthopaedic Group to create an interventional pain program and expand non-surgical treatment options for the last 10 years.
Dr. Newton's goal is to minimize chronic pain and to restore patients to their maximal functional potential. His training and 25 years of medical practice has helped him develop a comprehensive multimodal treatment plan that utilizes non-surgical treatment options that can include non-opiate medications, physical therapy, home exercise programs, weight loss, cognitive-behavioral referral, injections and minimally invasive interventional procedures that include nerve ablations, MILD procedure, stimulator therapy and kyphoplasty. In some cases of failed conservative treatment, appropriate surgical referral can be made.
When not treating patients, Dr. Newton enjoys working on his farm. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys travel, exercise, gardening and spending as much time with his family as he can.
Dr. Newton's team includes:
