Spine

Spine

The spine (backbone) plays a vital role in spinal cord stability, movement, and protection. It is made up of bony segments called vertebrae with fibrous tissue called intervertebral discs between them. The vertebrae and discs form the spinal column from the head to the pelvis, therefore, giving symmetry and support to the body.

Your spine is the foundation for your body's movement and acts as the control system for our everyday tasks. The bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves all work together to balance the weight of your body. Even minor damage to one component of your back's structure can upset this fragile balance and make movement painful.

Back pain is only second to headache as the most common cause of pain. An estimated 8 out of 10 people will have an issue with back pain at some point in their lives. With the causes varying from simple to complex, most pain can be treated non-surgically, however, in some cases, surgery may be necessary.

From pinched nerves to herniated discs to scoliosis or tumors, we have a highly skilled team of fellowship-trained physicians to assist in your treatment of spine and back pain.
