Request an AppointmentDr. Jay Bridgeman is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, he pursued his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University before embarking on a journey dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and providing exceptional patient care.
After completing his medical degree at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Bridgeman's passion for orthopaedic surgery led him to the renowned Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he successfully completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency training. During this time, he demonstrated exemplary dedication and compassion, earning him prestigious accolades, including the Penn State Humanitarian Orthopaedist Award and the AOA OREF Zimmer Resident Leadership Forum Award.
Driven by a commitment to refining his surgical skills, Dr. Bridgeman pursued further specialization in Hand & Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at the esteemed University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center. Equipped with extensive knowledge and technical expertise in hand surgery, he embarked on a teaching career at the Penn State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Driven by a shared commitment to medical service, Dr. Bridgeman and his wife, Pauline, who is also a physician, served at a mission hospital in Honduras, Central America. Dr. Bridgeman served as the medical director of Cure Hospital in San Pedro Sula, further expanding his expertise and dedication to patient care.
In 2014, Dr. Bridgeman joined the faculty at the University of Missouri, where he quickly distinguished himself as an Assistant Clinical Professor. Over the years, he was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor and assumed the leadership role of the Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery Service. Driven by a passion for teaching, he received the Barry J. Gainor Excellence in Teaching Award in 2018 and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in 2019.
Dr. Bridgeman's contributions to the field of orthopaedics extend beyond his clinical practice. As a recognized national and international educator in Hand Surgery, he has played an integral role in various educational committees and organizations. He has been an active member of the Hand Education Committee with AO Trauma North America since 2019 and currently serves as an International Program Editor for the AO International Education Taskforce. Dr. Bridgeman has also chaired and been invited as faculty for numerous Hand Surgery educational courses, both nationally and internationally.
Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Dr. Bridgeman's commitment to excellence is evident in his pursuit of additional qualifications. He has achieved the ABOS Certificate of Additional Qualification in Hand Surgery, further validating his expertise in the field. Dr. Bridgeman is an active member of professional organizations, including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, AO Trauma North America, AAOS, Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, and the Missouri State Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Bridgeman's clinical practice encompasses a broad range of specialties, including Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery, Pediatric Hand Conditions, and Limb Preservation (Upper & Lower Extremity). Patients benefit from his extensive experience, surgical proficiency, and compassionate approach to care.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Dr. Bridgeman cherishes family time with his three daughters. He finds solace and enjoyment in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and exploring the beautiful Mid-Missouri region.
