Dr. Josh Hamann grew up on a farm in eastern Iowa where he learned hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done. Working with his father, who was a carpenter, he learned to use the tools of the trade and work with his hands, which translated perfectly into Orthopaedics. This, combined with Dr. Hamann's love of athletics, lead him to his career in Sports Medicine.

Dr. Hamann graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Exercise Science and went on to complete Medical School and his Orthopaedic Residency at the University of Missouri. From Mizzou, Dr. Hamann completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Virginia, where he trained with some of the top surgeons in the specialty and covered James Madison University and University of Virginia athletics.

After fellowship, Dr. Hamann began a successful practice in Storm Lake, IA. In addition to his general Orthopaedic practice, he covered Buena Vista University (Div III) and many local high schools.

Dr. Hamann is Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS), and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and Arthroscopy Association of America (AANA). He also serves locally as the Boone County Medical Society President and on the national Sports Trauma and Overuse Prevention (STOP) committee, which focuses on the prevention of youth sports injuries. Dr. Hamann is passionate about helping athletes of all levels and ages maintain and return to optimum health for sports and for life!

He specializes in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgeries of the knee, shoulder, and hip, articular restoration, and ligament reconstruction. While Dr. Hamann is a skilled surgeon, he also specializes in non-operative management of your orthopaedic problems to treat your surgery if possible.

Today he lives in Columbia with his wife, Keira, and 3 children. Dr. Hamann enjoys spending time with his family and golden retriever, Jefferson, as well as spending time outside and using his carpentry skills to build his wife's Pinterest projects. He is an avid sports fan, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals.
