Dr.Thornburg is a Columbia, Missouri native. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and then returned to Columbia, Missouri where he attended medical school at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. During his final year of medical school, he was a medical extern at Fulton State Hospital in Fulton, Missouri. Dr. Thornburg completed his residency in Family and Community Medicine at the University of Missouri and during this time he was also a physician in the emergency department at Boone Hospital Center. He went on to obtain his Master of Science and Public Health at the University of Missouri in Columbia along with his Certificate of Added Qualification in Primary Care Sports Medicine.

Dr. Thornburg joined Columbia Orthopaedic Group in 2004 and specializes in sports medicine and non-operative orthopaedic care. He is an assistant team physician for the University of Missouri athletic department.

Dr. Thornburg is also a leader in the use of PRP for helping his patients. PRP is "platelet-rich plasma." Platelets are a specialized type of blood cell that are involved in injury healing. With PRP, a concentrated platelet solution is injected into the injured area to stimulate healing.

Dr. Thornburg is a member of several professional organizations including the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Family physicians, and American Medical Association. Working directly with Dr. Thornburg on his team is administrative assistant, Katie.

Dr. Thornburg and his wife have three children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and running.
