Request an AppointmentColumbia native, Dr. Shawn Sahota, has experienced world-class medical training from all across the country, and he is proud to bring his practice back to serve the folks of Mid-Missouri at COG.
Dr. Sahota began his studies with pre-admittance into the medical school at the University of Missouri. He was a part of the Honors College on an academic scholarship and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biological Sciences, a degree in Economics, and a minor in psychology. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
His next chapter took him to medical school at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, where he graduated with the highest honors. He completed residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL where he was elected by faculty and peers to serve as Chief Resident of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery during his final year.
While in Chicago, he assisted with coverage for the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, NBA combine, Midlands Wrestling Tournament, and local high school athletics.
Dr. Sahota completed fellowship training in Sports Medicine – Shoulder, Hip, and Knee Surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City (ranked #1 Orthopaedic Surgery program in the country). While in Manhattan, he served as a team physician for the New York Rangers Hockey Team and New York Liberty Basketball Team; further, he worked with team physicians for the New York Giants, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, and New York Mets.
Dr. Sahota is passionate about treating athletes of all ages and varieties – the young adolescent, the professional athlete, the weekend warrior, and everything in between. His patient centered focus is complimented by evidence-based care. He has authored numerous research publications, textbook chapters, as well as has presented nationally and internationally on his research. While he strives to treat each patient with non-operative measures, he understands a unique, personalized surgical plan is needed to ensure an optimal outcome when surgery is necessary. He believes the needs of the patient come first, and the goal is to help patients get back to activities they love doing!
Dr. Sahota is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Society (AOSSM), American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), and the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association (MAOA).
In his free time, Dr. Sahota is a sports enthusiast (basketball, football, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, golf, skiing) and enjoys spending time with his wife, Amanda (also native of Columbia, MO) and two daughters. The family enjoys being active in the community and everything Mizzou!
