Low back pain
<< Back to Spine Specialties
Back pain in the lower back is very common, affecting three million people in the United States annually. Pain involving the low back or lumbar region begins below the ribcage in the lower portion of the spine.
Low back pain is one of the most common causes of absenteeism at work. It can result from injury, poor posture, or repetitive wear-and-tear strains to the lumbar area. The pain often resolves without intervention within two to four weeks. Over-the-counter pain relievers, rest, or physical therapy can aid in healing the strained muscles or sprained ligaments, thereby resolving the pain.
