There are different types of spinal or intradural tumors.

• Intramedullary tumors begin within the spinal cord
• Extramedullary tumors start in the membrane around the spinal cord or the nerve roots
• Extradural tumors are outside the spinal canal. They usually result from cancer metastasis.
