Tendinitis
<< Back to Hand, Wrist & Elbow Specialties
Tendinitis is inflammation or irritation of a tendon, which is a thick cord connecting muscle to bone. The condition results in pain and tenderness in the area surrounding the affected joint. Tendinitis can be either short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic).
Tendinitis is usually caused by repetitive activities like housekeeping, gardening, shoveling, sports, or incorrect posture at home or work. It can also result from a more serious injury or impact.
Tendinitis can occur in any of your tendons, and anyone can get tendinitis. However, it is more common in adults over age 40. As tendons age, they have a lower tolerance for stress, less elasticity, and are easier to tear.
Signs and Symptoms
- Pain around the tendon
- Limited mobility
- Swelling, redness, and warmth
Treatment options
