Knee Pain
<< Back to Knee Specialties
Knee pain is a common condition affecting people of all ages. The severity of pain can range from mild discomfort to severe pain that limits activity and quality of life.
Pain in or around the knee may indicate a condition affecting the knee joint itself or the soft tissue around the knee. It can be caused by arthritis, heavy physical activity, lack of use, sitting for too long, or injury like sprain, strain, ruptured ligament, or torn cartilage. People who are overweight or have a history of arthritis are at higher risk.
Minor knee pain may respond well to self-care. Physical therapy (PT), knee braces, and other more drastic measures may be required to relieve pain. If none of those treatments offers relief, the knee may require surgical intervention to restore health and function.
